Sutton Hoo and The Dig

Netflix recently released the historical drama The Dig. The film relives the story of the excavation of one of the two early medieval cemeteries which dated from the 6th to 7th centuries. During the excavation, Basil Brown who is portrayed in the film by Ralph Fiennes, discovered a ship burial of great importance whilst under the employment of the landowner Edith Pretty. The artefacts unearthed were considered amongst some of the greatest treasure ever found in the UK.

Sutton Hoo, which is situated near Woodbridge along the banks of the River Deben about 29 miles from Valley Farm, has become one of the British Isle's most important archaeological sites.

Staying at Valley Farm will give you a great base to explore Suffolk's historic treasures of which there are many and Sutton Hoo is without doubt one of the highlights.
